So... last day of Jamuary 2020... what to do? I had this drum rhythm in mind, and while I was browsing my samples on the Digitakt I found the sample again that I used on day 21 ( • Jamuary 2020 Day 21: Raelee Nikole's "Slow... ) - Raelee Nikole's performance of "Slow" for Pickup: • Raelee Nikole - Slow | Pickup Live Session I experimented a little and found a cool phrase, tuned it down and matched it to the beat. I love the lyrics: "It's hyper real with clear energy / Perfect design and I swear I am dreaming". The original song is quite sweet, but these lines could have a much broader meaning. Of course the biggest star of this jam is the dirty reese bass on the Prophet. I'm using it in multi-mode, so it also plays the pad in the second half. The little melody is played on the Volca FM, for which the Thermae adds some cute pitched delays and the Ventris adds some dirt on the "lo-fi" setting. FYI: I'm using the Reface CP just as a MIDI controller, it's not producing any sound. Phew, that's it for Jamuary 2020! As with the previous 2 years, I was looking forward to it, but I'm happy now that it's over. For most people Jamuary is a reason to step out of 'production' mode, and just experiment / improvise / jam. For me it's (been) the other way around: with Slenterende Beer ( / slenterendebeer , improvisation is the basis of what we do, so with Jamuary I like to spend more time on sound design and composition. This means that I tend to spend more time on my jams than what I assume others do. Typically I spent 2-5 hours per day on making these jams, and then recording, editing and sharing them. I have a full-time job, so that meant I didn't get to sleep as much as I usually do. However, I am very happy with the results of this month. I have experimented with new ways of working, out of which the Digitakt has been an essential tool, I've completely fallen in love with it. And of course the Prophet has become a central element to my jams as well, it has allowed me to dive deep into sound design, and its presets and features have inspired me. In the coming time I will be looking into whether I can bundle some of these tracks and release them. If you want to be notified when I do, follow me on Instagram / Facebook / Twitter / Tumblr. Thanks to all of you who have followed my journey this month! It's great to see a big new group of people have started following me on different channels. Goodbye & see you soon!
