The last two girls alive traverse a rusted over wasteland, scavenging the desolation around them; and the whole time, they laugh and smile; how is this so? Girl’s Last Tour is a post-apocalyptic anime/manga that follows Chito and Yuuri (Chi and Yuu), possibly the last remaining humans. In a tiered city which is long abandoned and rusted over, they scavenge military bases and old battlefields, museums and planes alike to survive. With the end clearly in sight at all times, and no hope for humanity, how do they continue onwards? What purpose drives them? What is the point of their lives? Well, they continue upwards towards the top. Passing by easy survival, but with meaninglessness/pointlessness to life, to push into the unknown to confront the purpose of life. In a very existentialist way, Girl’s Last Tour presents themes of futility this video essay will analyze; nothing Chi and Yuu do can change their fate. Their world has no meaning. And yet within that pointless and futile world, they can still find meaning, or at least distraction, in their actions. Whatever they choose to do, all it serves is to push them into the next day, and so on again and again. This explains the human spirit; to be aware of how all things end, and to push forward anyway. Whether foolish distraction or mature awareness, the anime presents a case for the very absurd idea of “getting along with hopelessness.” An anime and manga video essay analyzing and explaining Girl’s Last Tour, its characters Chito and Yuuri, and explaining its existentialist and absurdist themes concerning the meaning of life Almost in F - Tranquillity, Ambiment - The Ambient, & Drone in D by Kevin MacLeod are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/... #anime #manga #girlslasttour #videoessay #professorviral
