Hello My Friends, Amaryllis bulbs can be started anytime you have a pot, soil and a bulb. But how do you treat them after? Some people throw it away because they think that's the end of their life. I heard that an Amaryllis bulb can live up to 75 years. How amazing is that!!! My Bulbs are treated like a green house or porch plant with light and water. I use Worm Castings in my soil for nutrition, but you could use any plant fertilizer as long as the Bulbs has long green leaves. If your Amaryllis leaves get too long and fall over or they die back, you can trim them off and decrease the water amount and the watering frequency. As the bulb top turns brown and starts looking dried out you can lift it up and shake off the soil and trim the roots back to about an inch. Lay them out to finish drying for a couple days and box them in a shallow container with tissue or shred. Let them rest a few months or until several weeks before you want them to bloom again. Then it's take them out, clean off brown layers of the bulb, being gentle. I even clip small cuttings off the tip, until I see a green "tongue" from the inside layers. It's now time for a pot, good Potting soil and water. Place the bulb in a half- filled pot and add more soil until the bulb is about 2/3 covered. I like to press down on the bulb and soil to give a solid footing. The bloom stalk and bloom can tip over if the bulb isn't secure. Now slowly add water to moisten the soil give it another tamping down. You can watch the bulb come back to life, year after year. I have put them on a sunny porch, not directly in the Full Sun. I do have Bulbs that are left in the Garden under trees and they multiply just fine. I dig them up in January and separate the babies from the Mother Bulbs. If you have questions, please feel free to ask. ❤️Peggy❤️ #gardening #backyardgardening ##potgarden #Amaryllis
