Silent Hiking Salt Flat & Big Spring Canyon - Canyonlands NP

Solo day hike on the Salt Flat and Big Spring Canyon Loop in Canyonlands NP, Utah in October of 2023. Approximately 7 miles of hiking and 650 feet of elevation gain. The featured route starts at the Squaw Flat Trailhead in the Needles Campground. From there I decided to do the route clockwise (although you can go either direction) starting on the Squaw Canyon Trail, onto the Wooden Shoe Canyon Trail and finally ending on the Big Spring Canyon Trail. This short day hike is perfect for solitude, views and an easy to moderate challenge. At the midpoint, the iconic rock spires that the Needles District is known for can be seen as you gaze down on Squaw Canyon. Huge rock face cliffs can be seen from down in Big Spring Canyon.
