Iron-core harmonic tuning reactors are a key element in all medium-voltage harmonic filter systems. It is critical to the proper design, operation, tuning, and reliability of the harmonic filter. When not properly manufactured or specified, the harmonic filter’s performance and reliability suffer. Sometimes rendering the filter unusable. It’s important to understand how iron-core reactors are designed, rated, manufactured, and tested to properly evaluate your filter and tuning reactor supplier. In this week’s Tech Talk #38, NEPSI is pleased to welcome Timothy Abbey and Dave Cavendar, both from Control Transformer, Inc., to shed light on this important topic. Control Transformer, Inc. is a key supplier and manufacturer of medium-voltage iron-core harmonic filter reactors. Dave and Tim will be with us to talk about iron-core reactor design and will also be bringing us video footage of their manufacturing and testing processes. The presentation starts with a short introduction into what a tuning reactor does, how its rating is determined, and will be followed by an interactive discussion and video presentation on iron-core reactor manufacturing and testing.
