Dive into the calming world of watercolor cat painting! In this video, I'll reveal the entire art process from sketch to finished piece, featuring three rescued cats belonging to my friend. It's more than just animal art | it's a portrait of family, captured in the gentle layers of watercolor painting. Watch as I use techniques like wet on wet watercolor to create a soft background and gradually build up the details of their fur and expressions. While I am aware of a few minor imperfections, this painting speaks to the power of connection and the beauty of acceptance. This relaxing painting video is an invitation to slow down and appreciate the art and the stories behind it. What You'll See in This Watercolor Video: 🐱 The Story Behind the Painting: Inspiration from three rescued cats and their unique bond. 🐱 Watercolor Painting Techniques: From a delicate sketch to the final touches. 🐱 Layering and Shadowing: How blue and Payne’s gray create deeper tones. 🐱 Gentle Fur Detailing: Using a glass pen and white gouache for delicate textures. 🐱 Warm Palette: Cream, ochre, and warm gray tones, grounded by a strong red carpet. 🐈 🐾🐾🐾 The painting shows three cats belonging to my friend. She found them as small kittens in her garden, cared for them, and kept them. They grew up together and now roam freely around the area. They are curious, confident, and very natural. While painting, I did not see them as three separate beings, but as a small group that belongs together. That is why I let their bodies gently overlap, to create a sense of closeness and quiet connection, almost like a family portrait. In this watercolor painting, I painted three cats sitting close to each other. They are placed in the foreground and form the main focus of the composition. Their bodies turn slightly in different directions, which adds life and a natural feel. Their eyes are open and alert, looking softly past the viewer, as if watching something nearby. There is calm in their expressions, but also a playful tension. I kept the background light, warm, and simple, without clear details, so nothing distracts from their faces. The background colors are soft, loose, and gently blended. The color palette is built on soft cream, ochre, and warm gray tones of fur. Some edges are blurred, not fully sharp, which supports a feeling of softness and warmth. Beneath the cats is a strong red carpet. It grounds them in space and creates contrast with their light fur. This element anchors the scene and prevents the figures from feeling like they are floating. The light is diffused, with no hard shadows. It feels calm and homely. The watercolor painting developed slowly, in several layers. I started with a light sketch, which was quite challenging this time. With more complex compositions, I am always reminded that a solid base is essential. I built the shadows carefully and used blue and later Payne’s gray instead of black for the darkest areas. This keeps the watercolor painting more alive and less harsh. With the white fur, I stayed restrained. Just a few ginger and ochre spots were enough to avoid a flat look. I worked with wet on wet watercolor mainly in the background, letting orange, green, and yellow flow into each other. On the fur, I alternated between regular brushes and a water brush to vary the strokes. Details like the pink noses and the gaze came later, once the larger areas were dry. That is the moment when color shapes begin to turn into living beings. For fine fur lines, I used a glass pen, and for whiskers I used white gouache with dotting and hatching. At the very end, I added small white highlights to the eyes. I am aware of a few flaws in this piece. Some fur transitions could use more time, and in one area the paper feels slightly overworked. The composition is very tight, and next time I might leave a bit more space around the figures. Still, I feel close to this painting. It is not perfect, but it is honest. And that is exactly what I wanted to capture in this watercolor art. #watercolor #watercolorpainting #catpainting #animalart #wetonwet #artprocess #relaxingpainting #watercolortechniques #creativepainting #paintingideas ✍️ AUTHENTICITY & TOOLS The content of this video is based on my personal experience, study, and practice.
