Discipleship is not just something the church does—it is the mission of the church. In this powerful opening message of our new 7-week series on discipleship, we explore why Selfless Church places its highest priority on making disciples and being discipled. Building on our previous series Spiritually Formed, this teaching challenges believers to move beyond casual Christianity and embrace the costly calling of following Jesus. Looking at the historical example of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and the Confessing Church during Nazi Germany, we examine the difference between cheap grace and costly grace. Bonhoeffer reminded the church that true discipleship requires courage, conviction, and a willingness to stand for Christ in a world that pressures believers to compromise. The message then turns to Matthew 28:16–20, where the risen Jesus gives the Great Commission. We discover that the central command of this passage is not simply to go, baptize, or teach—but to make disciples. Jesus declares that all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Him, fulfilling the prophetic vision of Daniel 7, and He empowers His followers to transform the world through faithful discipleship. When God wants to change the world, He calls disciples. This sermon will challenge you to rethink your role in the Kingdom and take practical steps toward discipling others in your everyday life. In this message you will learn: -The difference between cheap grace and costly grace -Why discipleship is the true mission of the church -How the Great Commission reshapes our understanding of ministry -How Daniel’s prophecy points to Jesus’ authority -Practical steps for making disciples today Practical Challenge: Write down three people you will pray for, build relationships with, and intentionally disciple.
