Is This the Future of Vintage Shopping? Explore a New Antique Mall!

Fife Antique Mall is all new—a big 100-dealer space that is just filling up as we drive into the parking lot. Fresh paint, fresh merchandise, and fresh excitement come with a new antique center, and we’re here to meet the dealers, see the displays, and look for potential bargains as things come out that may not have been seen in years! Miss Wildlife and her friend from Annabella’s Antiques are our shopping guides. Anne has three spaces in the new mall with different themes, and we see that many of the dealers have created room-like vignettes that make it easy to see how to incorporate real vintage into your home! But our first stop is the double jewelry space run by a long-time area reseller, who is turning empty shelves into glittering displays of good vintage rhinestones, Bakelite, silver, and every other conceivable kind of costume jewelry from the past! New antique malls are fun to see at their inception, when their evolution is just beginning! Some of Fife’s spaces are already full of everything from Fiesta and elegant glass to fine furniture, mirrors, wall art, and MCM home accessories, while others are just starting with pieces of antique oak or Danish teak to anchor them—a fresh canvas awaiting completion as people bring in boxes of antique and vintage stock. What is already here is impressive and interesting! 1910s turn-lock leather purses, a 1950s wool suit, micro mosaic pill boxes, and Bohemian perfume bottles are ready to grace a new boudoir. A nautical-themed space includes scarce Bimini Werkstatte mermaid cocktail glasses, while Tiffin Twilight alexandrite glasses and a ruby Fostoria Heirloom bowl sparkle for glass collectors. A wicker sedan chair, an 1890s mangle, and a wildly fun 1970s decoupaged scenic table set (orange, of course) are a few of the large items that catch our eye. New malls always have a few bargains to find, as dealers from one market bring their stock to a new place, so we’re vying to be the mall’s first customers ever! Up to the counter go Pilgrim Glass cats, a Lucite owl spoon rest, a Blenko fish, and a really pretty 1960s powder blue epergne as we tour the new spaces… and we’d put the $95 English cabinet in our van immediately if we had the room. With about two-thirds of the mall full and new dealers working hard on the rest (including one theatrical dealer who’s hiding behind a curtain until she can make her debut), we have plenty of reasons to check back at what appears to be turning into a good, large antique emporium!
