This talk is about how feminism has been shaped by social media, and not necessarily for the better. It aims to discuss how society’s extreme willingness to follow to fluctuations of trends, and beyond that, reliance on them is hindering feminism’s ability to be productive and create positive change. Katharina’s goal through this talk is to remind listeners of the core purpose of feminism: choice. Hopefully listeners will feel encouraged to cater feminism to them, rather than trying to contort themselves to fit the ‘remainder’ of the movement. Katharina is 16 years old, currently in the first year of studying the IB diploma at St Clare’s in Oxford. She is from Austria and is passionate about the deep impact of social media in shaping the views of society. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
