We love hearing your ideas, so let us know what worlds or stories you’d like us to bring to life next! 🌿 ~ Gondar: Ethiopia’s Crowned City 👑🪈🌴 Gondar was a kingdom before it was a city, a wandering court shifting from camp to camp, its rulers never staying long enough to build walls. The highlands gave them shelter, but not security. Rebellion brewed in the shadows, and foreign armies tested their strength. Each emperor ruled and died, never resting in one place for long. But Emperor Fasilides grew tired of fleeing. He chose a place near Lake Tana, where the land was fertile, the hills stood high, and the waters ran deep. He would carve permanence from the stone, give his people something no enemy could chase them from—a home. He raised castles where tents once stood, laid roads where the earth had only known footpaths. Bridges crossed rivers, and churches rose with their spires touching the sky. The city grew, a place of trade and law, faith and power. At last, the wandering had ended. No longer a court on the move, Gondar became the heart of an empire, its walls a promise that the past would not repeat. The years brought war, ruin, and fire, but still, the city stood.
