Since 2007, the Bix Lives Award has been awarded to those who exemplify what it means to keep Bix’s Legacy alive. Recipients are selected annually by the Bix Lives Award Committee through those nominated for the honor. A bronze likeness of Bix is presented to the recipient during a ceremony at the annual Bix Jazz Festival. On August 2nd, 2024, the Bix Lives Award Committee announced that Andy Schumm was the 2024 recipient of the Bix Lives Award. Here is the ceremony at the 2024 Bix Fest. The Bix Beiderbecke Museum & World Archives are now accepting nominations for the 2025 Bix Lives Award. There are three criteria to be eligible to receive the award. They are as follows: 1. An Individual, Group, or Organization who, over the years, has created a greater understanding of Bix Beiderbecke’s contribution to American Music Culture. 3. An Individual, Group, or Organization who, over the years, has proven to be an advocate for Bix Beiderbecke and his legacy by their effort through learning and promoting the history of Bix Beiderbecke’s life.
