Best viewed in 1080p HD The summer of 2025 marked the long-awaited return of GWR Castle 4-6-0 No. 5029 'Nunney Castle' following a lengthy 10-year overhaul at Locomotive Services Limited's Crewe Works. After being outshopped in GWR 1940s "Post-War" Lined Green earlier in the year, the engine would spend the summer based at Bishops Lydeard, having been chosen to work LSL's programme of steam tours in the South West. Amongst these would be Saphos Trains' "English Riviera Express" trips, an annual series of excursions offering steam haulage between Taunton & Kingswear, latterly operating over the Dartmouth Steam Railway's metals. Having arrived in Devon for a week's holiday, I ventured down to Kingswear on the afternoon of 23rd of August, having made plans to film the GWR 4-6-0 heading out along the Dart Estuary with the return leg en route to Taunton. Here, 5029 is seen steadily getting its train underway, whistling for a foot crossing further up the line. Swinging round the curve alongside the estuary, the 'Castle' is fully opened up and, with a tremendous display of noise & exhaust, thunders past with LSL's rake of 12 coaches on the drawbar - spectacular to witness!
