It has always been there, but it has recently been shown to the public. For art historians, it is somewhere between the illustrations of Salvador Dali and the Seraphinianus Codex - they explain the whimsical and fantastic nature of the drawings in the manuscript by the medieval tendency of people to think magically, which often explained feelings and phenomena beyond their understanding.
