I didn't like getting beaten by the Bra Area of Operations (AO), so I inserted with Recon Team (RT) Knife again to take it on and kick its ass. I think the Bra AO still handed my ass to me, but RT Knife put up a good fight. My Assistant Team Leader, or One-One, was unfortunately killed in action (KIA) on this run, but we managed to find two NVA sites, and we stayed on the ground for an extended period of time, even breaking contact and continuing mission when an NVA tracker walked into our Lay Dog position and was terminated by my tail gunner. There were a few close calls as I crept up to reconnoiter the first NVA site. Thankfully, the vegetation concealed me from the tracker who was trying very hard to find me. Also, I'm proud to say that my pre-mission map studies paid off as the sites we found all coincided with the potential sites I marked on the map. The old adage, prior planning prevents piss-poor performance, definitely rings true when conducting SOG missions! I also got shocked out of my skin when the tracker made contact with my team at our Lay Dog position. You'll see that I was drawing a patrol route on the map when it happened, and my line jumped all over the map as I scrambled to get back in the fight. There was also a random explosion as we evaded to the extraction LZ. Once again, I was on my map when it happened. It was likely a booby-trapped NVA fuel can that I activated due to proximity, but I can't be sure. The NVA were pretty active in the area, as expected. And a patrol literally made a beeline to my team's Lay Dog position when I was attempting to reconnoiter the second site, which felt kind of unfair because it was almost as if they knew my guys were there. I hope it was purely coincidental and not some game bug that zeroed in the enemy AI to my friendly AI. But anyway, with that second contact, I decided it was time to get the hell out of dodge and declare a Prairie Fire emergency and immediate extraction. Once again, I'm playing ATF in Singleplayer with a whole slew of mods, including Johnnyboy's amazing SOG AI. Additionally, I made it a point to use as much of the tactics and procedures that I penned down on my RT Knife Manual, available here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ubeY... This was a tactically executed and exciting run of ATF, and I hope you guys enjoy it. The timestamps for the mission is below: 00:00 Insertion into AO. 00:15 Selecting my SOG Recon Team, RT Knife, with SOG AI. 00:59 Confirming location, deciding patrol route, selecting Pointman, and commencing patrol. 05:15 Pointman finds dropped NVA item, with tracks leading North-west. I make a course correction to investigate. 07:25 My Pointman hears NVA voices close to our North-west. I get the team to Lay Dog while I proceed to investigate the source of the voices. 12:45 I spot an NVA ammo cache through the vegetation. I tried to take photos, but they weren't clear enough. 13:05 An alert NVA soldier passes dangerously close to my location. Being prone in the vegetation was the only thing keeping me undetected. 15:20 I decide it wasn't worth the risk to get a photo. I mark the site and proceed to return carefully to my team's Lay Dog position. 20:05 I return to my team and plan out our next course of action. I get the living daylights scared out of me when an NVA tracker stumbles on our location and is engaged and killed by my tail gunner. There goes the neighborhood! I quickly get the team up and moving away from the contact zone and get my tail gunner to plant mines on our backtrail to deter NVA trackers. 22:05 With no obvious trackers on our tail, I decide to continue mission and patrol to the area of interest provided by HQ. 27:00 One of our Toe-popper mines goes off in the distance, signaling that we did indeed have trackers on our tail. We press on. 31:54 Pointman finds dropped booby-trapped NVA item close to my planned Rally Point, with tracks leading South-east. We skirt the booby-trap and procced to an alternate Rally Point. 34:55 The team occupies the alternate Rally Point, and scents of a latrine and cooking fires can be smelled to our North and South. We were truly in enemy territory. 35:50 An NVA patrol is spotted along the trail from the South. I decide to investigate the South first. I also marked out the potential location of the Southern site. I turned out to be pretty spot-on with my pre-mission map studies. 37:20 I spot an NVA patrol walking right to my team's location. 37:35 No hiding it now. I initiate contact. The firefight begins. 39:10 My One-One is KIA. I call an airstrike to help us break away from the NVA. 41:05 I declare a Prairie Fire emergency, and we make a beeline to the Landing Zone (LZ). 42:25 A random explosion occurs. I assume it's a booby-trapped NVA item I activated. 43:30 We reach the LZ and board the Huey for the flight back to base. 44:25 Mission debrief.
