Rolling Creek Trail, Lost Creek Wilderness, Colorado, with exploration of The Castle

November 9, 2025 8.64 miles, 2142 feet elevation gain. Rolling Creek Trail is a very pleasant trail near Bailey that can be enjoyed year-round. I took an off-trail side trip to The Castle, a prominent pinnacle on the east side of the Wilderness. Fair warning - these are steep hillsides with loose rock and downed trees. I would not attempt it on snow, and in the Spring and early Summer it would be a tick nightmare. The Castle is most directly accessed from Wellington Lake, but my understanding is that getting "into" the Castle from that side is a technical climb (as opposed to a serious bushwack), as is getting to the tops of the spires.
