Learn more at ergonasphalt.com. eScrub is a rejuvenating scrub seal for asphalt roads from Ergon Asphalt & Emulsions. Mass cracking used to signal the end of life for asphalt pavements, but eScrub has changed the game. The eScrub application process employs a simultaneous apply and scrub method that addresses mass cracking and asphalt pavements, bridging the gap between pavement preservation treatments and more intrusive processes, like mill and fill. With a highly modified rejuvenating emulsion, eScrub can go beyond the capabilities of ordinary chip seals to not only repair severe distresses, but also improve the asphalt's quality and durability in the process. Recently, Riverside County, California, experienced a population boom, and while that was great for the local economy, it wreaked havoc on the roads. With the massive increase in traffic, the local roads were buckling, and the county was struggling to sustain well over 4,500 lane miles all with a dwindling budget. It was decided to test out eScrub on Harville Avenue, which had an average daily traffic count of 8,864 and a traffic index of 9.5 with a significant amount of truck traffic. Because intense temperatures were a major factor, special attention was given to the formulation to ensure the product would perform properly and not bleed in extreme heat. After all safety checks were in place, the application began at 9 a.m. First, the crew placed and distributed the eScrub emulsion onto the road surface. Attached to their distributor truck was a scrub broom that forced the emulsion into the cracks to lock moisture out of the base. Next, aggregate was immediately applied. A total of three lanes and 7,106 square yards were treated within two hours. The starting application rate was 0.65 gallons per square yard to fill in large cracks at the beginning of the project with an average application rate of 0.44 gallons per square yard. Lanes were reopened once they had been rolled and swept and the entire road was released to traffic 15 minutes after final sweeping which concluded at 4 p.m. that same day. Neither bleeding nor flushing occurred after the roadway was open to traffic, proving that eScrub delivered on time, under budget and with outstanding results that would be unattainable with any other product. eScrub the rejuvenating scrub seal that lasts.
