This Sunday, December 1 in Worship Jeremiah 33: 14 - 16 "Hope Begins in the Dark" As we begin this Advent season, we are reminded that true hope doesn't come from avoiding darkness but from embracing it. Today, we hear from the Prophet Jeremiah, whose words of comfort stand out in a bleak landscape. We'll explore what it means to have "clear-eyed" hope—the kind that sees the world as it is, acknowledges the challenges, and yet chooses to believe in God's promises. Hope is not naive optimism; it's the courage to work toward a better future, even when it feels impossible. Join us as we light the first Advent candle, the flicker of hope that guides us forward. On this first Sunday of Advent we will have with us as our guest instrumentalist Hitoshi Suzuki who will provide cello pieces and accompaniment throughout the service. Hitoshi and Jason McNally will be playing O Come, O Come Emmanuel adapted by Jon Schmidt, and Amazing Grace with Bach, the traditional American Melody adapted from Bach and arranged by Sun Ahn. Our Chancel Choir will be singing a lovely Advent anthem entitled Waiting for Emmanuel by Ruth Elaine Schram containing a plaintive melody and text that describes all who wait for the arrival of Emmanuel. "Each with a need that only He could fill.” And our soprano soloist/section leader Shannon Miller will be singing Gesu Bambino by Pietro Yon. Come this Sunday as we begin our Advent journey towards the birth of Jesus and be inspired through word and song.
