Duling Grant Program, www.treefund.org/researchgrants Several studies have observed patterns of urban tree canopy loss, with construction being a common source. Despite implementation of tree protection bylaws, tree canopy continues to decline due to construction activities, long after construction is completed. In this study, we focused on the City of Surrey, in British Columbia, Canada to determine if trees protected during construction activities were still present post-construction. We propose strategies for municipalities to review their tree protection ordinances and assess their efficacy.
