I had a fun time recording this song in 1996, singing it as well as playing the slide guitar and all of the guitar parts with the only exception being when my good friend Randy Anguish came for a visit while I was recording and added a guitar line and a solo. We had been recently performing at select venues as a duo, so it was a pleasure to invite his contribution. Oreo Cookie Blues is one of the tracks form my unreleased compact disc, 'TENNESSEE STREET' which features mostly original songs and a couple covers that I often performed, including this one. When the recording was done, I sent a copy of my rendition to the song's writer and original artist, Lonnie Mack, who complimented me on my effort and referred to me then as his Oreo Cookie Brother. Lonnie and I stayed connected until he passed in 2016. It was Lonnie's song 'Memphis' that was the first song I had learned on electric guitar when pre-teen aged. Lonnie had recorded 'Oreo Cookie Blues' along with his brother Bill McIntosh and Stevie Ray Vaughan both joining him on guitar. It was released in 1985 on his 'Strike Like Lightning' album made available by Alligator Records. Of note; my rendition was a small-run independent CD release that found its way to a small radio station at Greenwood Mississippi, WABG 960AM, where it rose to be the second-most requested song on their weekly countdown. The radio station continues to serve the Mississippi Delta and reaches blues-rich landmark destinations such as Clarksdale, Itta Bena, Dockery and Indianola. WABG also streams worldwide at www.awesomeam.com from its broadcast shack situated on a plantation just a short distance from the Zion Church on Money Road where Robert Johnson was buried. I special ordered this 7-inch picture disc through www.vinylart.co who manufacture these one-sided vinyl 45s by first printing your custom art work and then mastering and cutting the audio file onto the vinyl playing side. The art work was adapted from my own label that I used on a 2-sided custom 78 RPM record which featured two of my original songs.
