Aislinn Hamill is a Junior Computer Science major in the Randall Research Scholars Program (RRSP). Their research project presentation, "Security Testing of Biometric Authentication Systems for Enhanced Access Control Applications," was completed under the advisement of Travis Atkison from the Department of Computer Science. Project Description: This project aims to identify potential vulnerabilities within IDEMIA’s ID2Access suite, a biometric security system designed for gate access control in environments such as military bases, campuses, and corporate facilities. The suite includes four integrated modules: ID2Enrollment, which manages remote enrollment of authorized individuals; ID2Pass, for streamlined vehicle entry using facial recognition; ID2AccessControl, which secures access points through fingerprint and retina scanners; and ID2Surveillance, which monitors perimeters with drone-based geofencing. Vulnerability testing will be conducted on every node of ID2Access to evaluate susceptibility to data exfiltration, system manipulation, and unauthorized access. Simulated attacks will test ID verification, facial recognition accuracy, and data security. The results are expected to reveal vulnerabilities across the suite, and plans for mitigation will be developed accordingly. This research will help strengthen the security of biometric systems to benefit both public and private sectors.
