🌏 Taiwan Reflections | A journey of beauty, and the reminder never to take travel for granted Five years ago, almost at this exact date, I made a short journey to Taiwan. At that time, it was only meant as a substitute trip—the plan to visit Sydney was canceled because of the devastating wildfires, so I turned instead to Taiwan. I didn’t expect that this brief decision would become so meaningful later. I chose two of the country’s most renowned destinations I had never visited before: Sun Moon Lake and Alishan. The calm waters of Sun Moon Lake reflected a soft, timeless beauty, while the misty mountains of Alishan carried a serene stillness that made me slow down and breathe deeper. Walking through the ancient forest trails and watching the light shift across the lake and peaks felt peaceful, like being embraced by nature itself. Back then, it was simply a relaxing, enjoyable trip. But soon after, everything changed. The world entered the pandemic, travel stopped, and the fear of the unknown kept us apart from the places and people we longed to see. For four long years, we waited. During that time, I came to realize deeply: we can never take travel for granted. It is not something we can always do “whenever we want.” It depends on so many conditions falling into place. Watching these images now, I feel a second layer of emotions. Sun Moon Lake and Alishan are not only beautiful memories; they remind me how fragile yet precious freedom of movement is. Travel is more than a journey across landscapes—it is also a journey within ourselves, teaching us gratitude for the simple chance to explore this vast and beautiful world. I share this video hoping you can also taste a little of that peace, beauty, and reflection from Taiwan—even if you may not be able to stand on those shores or forests yourself.
