Surmai curry has its own flavour & taste. So today let's make some delicious & tempting Surmai fish / King Fish curry. There are many names for this fish & even the cooking process varies from one place to another. Let's get started for the recipe: _____________________________________________ Ingredients: 3 to 4 Surmai slices Half grated coconut (medium size) 9 to 10 Byadagi Chillies 7-8 tspns of Coriander seeds 1finely chopped onion (medium size) 9 to 10 garlic 5 to 6 kali miri (black pepper) 1 teaspoon of jeera (cumin) Half spoon of haldi powder (turmeric) 6-7 Ambya sol (dry mango sticks) / 2 tbsps dry mango powder 5 to 6 kokum 3 to 4 tspns coconut oil / regular oil Salt as per taste __________________________________________ Method: In a mixer, add grated coconut, turmeric powder, soaked coriander seeds, Byadagi chillies, garlic, cumin seeds, black pepper & soaked dry mango sticks. Add water gradually and grind everything to form thick, fine & runny paste. Now heat coconut oil in a kadai. Add finely chopped onion and stir till it turns slight brown in colour. Now lower the flame and then add coconut spice paste. Stir after 2 minutes and add water as per required consistency of curry. Spread kokum on all sides of kadai. Add salt as required and bring the curry to boil. Boil well for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, lower the flame and then add fish slices. Hold the kadai up the flame and give gentle stir without spoon or spatula (as shown in video). Cover the lid and boil on medium flame for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, open the lid and give gentle stir. Boil for another 2 minutes on medium flame. Simmer for a minute and then switch off the flame and rest for 5 minutes. Serve Karwar Style King Fish Curry / Surmai Curry/ Viswon Curry with steamed rice & some few slices of onion. ____________________________________ Tips: Do not overcrowd the kadai by adding too many fish at a time, this may tend to break the fish slices. Boiling curry for 5-7 minutes on medium flame is good enough to cook Surmai fish. Also do not keep on stirring curry continuously for long time., as this may easily break the fish slices. If you do not have Dry mango sticks, you may add 2 tbsps of Amchur Powder (Dry mango powder) for half grated coconut. Subscribe & stay tuned for more recipes. #surmai #fish #food
