CCRMA Colloquium. April 30, 2014 abstract: The 47 channel Klangdom continuously implemented at the ZKM|Karlrsuhe (center for art and media) along with the 50 channel sound Pavilion "the morning line" placed in front of the cubus represent the activity in the field of spatial audio at the ZKM|Institut for Music and acoustic. Along with hardware the ZKM recently created a new rebuilt of the free software Zirkonium MK2 to control and store movements inside a flexible speaker environment using either VBAB or Ambisonics. http://on1.zkm.de/zkm/stories/storyRe... http://www.zkm.de/zirkonium Beside an introduction into the concept of the new Zirkonium Mk2 software this talk discusses psychoacoustic facts showing that spatial audio is at least as useful as parameters like articulation, instrumentation, counterpoint or sometime pitch.
