Drum play through of a re-imagined version of Shattered from the Rolling Stones by Dead Dean. Back in early 2002, my longtime friend Mike Jensen reached out letting me know a friend of his was looking for a drummer. Got the number and went up to NYC to meet the infamous Dead Dean. He had a bunch of songs that he wanted to record and since I was already playing regularly with Lethal Aggression & Solace, I figured, why the hell not? Working on these songs was a trip - we would set up in Dean’s apartment on the 11th floor in the Smith Houses on Catherine Slip in the Lower East Side and blast out songs. Amazing that the cops showed up only once! We had 6 originals that Dean, Johnny Kaufman & myself worked on and during our last rehearsal before we went into the studio, Dean had an idea to do a version of Shattered. We played it together once or twice and when we recorded, we only had about 9 minutes of tape left and 10 minutes at the end of the session, so it was a one shot deal. We improvised a lot and watched each other for cues and squeezed it in with about 30 seconds of tape left on the reel. The original plan was to do leads over the jam at the end, but the Jason, the engineer played sax on it. Absolutely one of my favorite things I ever played on, so it was on my list of songs to film.
