Another Solace song that I only got to play once live and is, I believe is the first song released by the band in 1998. Always loved this one, but this took on a new level of meaning with this take. This was recorded in the early morning of January 9th, hours after Jason had left us, & unbeknownst to me at the time . I’d been playing this for a couple weeks but never got through it cleanly - this was the first time I played how I wanted and was the first and only take. I recorded Mandog right before this one and it had a different energy than any other time I played it, so I figured I'd go for it even though I wasn’t planning on doing it yet. Jason’s performance on this is beyond incredible and the energy he brought to it would always push me to the next level whenever we played it. Keith Ackerman was the drummer on the original track, an original member of the band and one of Jason's close friends. I always enjoyed playing the songs that he recorded with Solace - playing the right notes was one thing, but nailing his vibe was always challenging in the best way possible. Although The Atomic Bitchwax was really active around the time I was in Solace, Keith & I never crossed paths other than me lending him a drum key when a band I was in at the time opened for Solace once in around 2000. Ironically, the first time we actually met & talked was at Jason’s Memorial and I left feeling like I had just reunited with an old friend, like Jay was saying, “You guys should hang out”. So, thanks Jay for looking out from beyond for that & also giving me some divine inspiration to drive this one home. I hope I did it justice for both of you. Also, I noticed another cool detail when I was putting this together that had to do with the photo of Jason & I at the end of the video. It's one of the only photos I have of us just hanging out together & was taken by my wife, Sandy at the Wall Airport bar after a rehearsal, when we all met up for drinks afterward and happened to be on her birthday.
