AI Assisted Storytelling: Discover a whole new way to create! This video features Joe Nowak, a member of the Indian Prairie Computer Club, presenting on AI-assisted storytelling using Gemini's storybook feature. He explains how to create a book from a prompt, with text and images, detailing the process from concept to finished product. Nowak covers various aspects of prompt engineering, including being specific, using keywords for style, defining character and location details, and the importance of an iterative process for corrections. He discusses potential glitches with the experimental feature, such as aspect ratio issues and printing problems, and offers workarounds. The presentation includes a live demonstration of creating a storybook and showcases examples of previously created books. The discussion also touches upon sharing the created books online, copyright implications, and the creative potential of AI storytelling for both children and adults. Several attendees share their experiences and ask clarifying questions, further enriching the discussion on AI's role in content creation. Meet Joe Nowark: Joe’s love for technology began in 1980 with his first Apple II, leading him to Radio Shack the next year, where he quickly became a computer trainer. A longtime member of the computer enthusiast community, Joe joined the Chicago Computer Society in the late 1980s and moderated Special Interest Groups on word processing and the Internet. He frequently presented to both this group and the Indian Prairie Computer Club, later continuing his outreach through Zoom sessions during the pandemic. Today, Joe is deeply engaged in artificial intelligence, especially text-to-image tools and AI-driven storytelling—areas he’s excited to explore with you. He spent 24 years at Columbia College Chicago teaching “Foundations of Computer Applications” and also taught evening computer classes for adults at a local high school. Since retiring from Columbia College in 2009, Joe has stayed active in tech education. In 2022, he began teaching with GetSetUp, a role he still enjoys.
