Always seek medical advice before making any lifestyle changes. At a young age, I always wanted to be a physician. In high school, my nun guidance counselor said as a woman best for me to become a nun, a teacher, or a nurse. Nursing was the closest to my desired profession. So off to nursing school I went. So I finished my RN and immediately went on to my BS in education and taught at Philadelphia General Hospital, Bryn Mawr Hospital, and Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. Still yearning to continue my learning journey, I received my premed education and my Masters as a nurse practitioner. I received my DO then my MD. FINALLY!!! Did my residency for another 3 years: board certified in Internal Medicine. Went into private practice with 2 other MDs, both women. I grew up in Bethlehem, PA. And dad worked at the Bethlehem Steel and was exposed to asbestos. He developed lung cancer as did my mother. His work clothes were full of asbestos and washed at home. Leaving us all exposed. I developed lung cancer in 2014. An incidental finding, when I developed a bowel obstruction from my raw cabbage salad. Some how I fell in love with cabbage and routinely ate it raw, until my bowel revolted. In the ER, doctors did a CAT scan of my abdomen, and in doing so, my right lower lobe was captured in the images. So my lung cancer was present at 1.7 centimeters. One single lesion without any symptoms. Saw oncology, then surgeon for a VATS procedure which is VIDEO ASSISTED THORACOTOMY SURGERY. With chest tubes, post op, they were removed and home bound. I deveoped fluid at the original surgical site but that resolved (an expected side effect). Chemo for 4 rounds Then, I started on my alternative treatment strategies: I did GERSON in MEXICO. Then went onto TRUE NORTH for fasting for 15 days. My doc was Dr. Klapper. Lost my hearing with the carboplatium…. Hearing aides needed. Went on to Alecensa an immunotherapy drug. With full dose I begged for lower doses to avoid painful side effects. With this drug developed severe muscle pain until the dose reduced. Because my cancer marker was elevating KEYTRUDA was given. After the first dose my fingers became swollen.. oncology dismissed this and a 2 nd dose given, which gave me full blown RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS. In my experience it was so debilitating that I needed live in help for 3 years of RA drugs: steroids, Rinvoq, methotrexate. All toxic, causing multiple fractures from high dose steroids to combat my RA. John’s Hopkins did research on Keytruda so I went their for treatment of my RA. In the mean time more carboplatium was used and more hearing loss. Then avastin which caused high blood pressure. Then I had post THORACOTOMY pain needed high dose pain meds. Unrelenting pain, I sought a consult to obtain CRYOABLATION which cured my pain and abolished the cancer cells sitting on my nerves. I Am now on immunotherapy on a lower doses to avoid to side effects.
