Today you can take a pretty unique ride on the shunting train from the workshop Zaanstraat in Amsterdam to the Dijksgracht and the Watergraafsmeer. We won't be making lots of kilometers today, but in this video you will see how much communication there will be while shunting trains from one point to another. We will start our short journey at the Zaanstraat in Amsterdam. Before we can depart we need to make a call to the train dispatcher to give us permission to start running our train from a non controlled area to the controlled area. After we got the permission it's allowed to run a maximum of 20 km/h at the Zaanstraat until the train has completely passed the first low signal. At the Zaanstraat all junction must be set to the right position by the driver itself. In this case a shunter already set the junction in the right position. We're perfectly on time to the train dispatcher from the controlled area cleared the tracks so we can ride to Amsterdam CS without stopping. In Amsterdam we have short communication with another train dispatcher. At first I tell him the empty train that had just left toward Haarlem was driving with two red light at the front of the train instead of three white or yellow lights. This so the train dispatcher could call the driver to set the lights to the right position. Also he asks if we are ready for departure to the Dijksgracht and if it's okay for me to com in via track 76 instead of track 77. No problem for me. As soon as there's space for us the train dispatcher sets the junction and the signals and we're off to the Dijksgracht. Before entering the Dijksgracht we make a full stop in front of a stopping sign (S-board). At this point we need permission from another train dispatcher to pass the sign and take our train to the uncontrolled area where we need to set the junctions to the right position again. And this is what you can see me doing. At the Dijksgracht there are to other SLT's waiting for service. Those trains a being reserved for our newest SNG trains. When one of those train fails service these SLT's will be taken from the Dijksgracht and put back in service. We take our train to track 89 and call the train dispatcher to tell him on what track we're at and all other tracks a available again. Then we change trains to track 87. Why is this done? Well the train mechanics that maintain the trains work at the Zaanstraat and the Watergraafsmeer. We take the train to the Dijksgracht because there's no room from them on the Watergraafsmeer and the Zaanstraat during the night. The switch at the Dijksgracht takes place every day so the trains will all get their 48 hour control check up. A little late we depart from track 87 because there was some misunderstanding about what train I had to take with me to the Watergraafsmeer. After a few calls I was told to take the one on track 87. And again.. before departure we need to call the train dispatcher to take the train to the first red signal. There we call the train dispatcher from the controlled area that we're ready for the Watergraafsmeer. And when arrived on the Watergraafsmeer we make a call to the train dispatcher from the Dijksgracht to tell him all tracks at the Dijksgracht are free for use again. A whole lot of work for just a small piece of driving. A few hours later we take the train from the Watergraafsmeer (after it's check up) directly back to the Zaanstraat. Before departure the train dispatcher controlled area gives us a call if we're ready for departure. And last but not least there are some interruptions at Amsterdam Central Station because of junction failure. This is why we have to wait a little longer before red signals. When arriving on the Zaanstraat we have to stop before the S-board, call the train dispatcher uncontrolled area Zaanstraat and after permission we may take our train to track 25b. On arrival we make a final call that we have arrived and all other tracks are free for use again. I hope you will enjoy this special video. Make sure to subscribe for more! Cheers!
