As we begin the holy season of Lent, Fr Kane reflects on the Gospel of Jesus’ forty days in the desert and reveals the true blueprint for our Lenten journey. Lent is not meant to be a gloomy season, but a time of spiritual training — a time to grow stronger in faith as we prepare for the joy and victory of Easter. In this homily, Fr Kane explores the three spiritual weapons the Church gives us: prayer, fasting and almsgiving. He speaks honestly about temptation, the subtle voice that questions God, and the deeper struggle at the heart of every sin — pride. Through Christ’s example in the desert, we are reminded that humility and obedience lead us back to the Father’s will. As Jesus resists the tempter with Scripture and trust, we too are invited to confront the pride within us and learn again to say: “Lord, your way, not mine.” May this reflection strengthen you in these forty days and help you walk faithfully through the desert towards the joy of Easter.
