How can diagnosis and treatment be changed to provide a more sustainable healthcare system?

The population will grow older in the years to come. If we continue to operate the health services as we do today, this may lead to users not having their needs met and to a shortage of labour. Many researchers are now looking for more sustainable solutions, both for environmental footprints, resource scarcity, overtreatment and more efficient operation of health services. What creates health? What creates ill-health? And how can we change from repair to prevention? Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at NTNU has engaged many young researchers to investigate these challenges. We address some topics/perspectives in diagnosis and treatment: How to convey knowledge about resistant bacteria Can gut bacteria show early cancer How can we help the mentally ill to better physical health How can new methods in cancer research make it possible to adapt treatment to the individual patient
