Hike the Panther Creek Trail, North Cascades, Washington | 7.5 miles | Forest, River and Wildflowers

Join Steve and me for a hike in the beautiful North Cascade mountains of Washington! We’ve been wanting to hike this trail for quite awhile. For those of you who’ve visited the area, it’s very close to Ross Lake and the East Bank Trailhead, plus Thunder Creek and the Pyramid Lake trail. On this day we had the trail all to ourselves even though it was the Memorial Day weekend. The trail goes up to a ridge, then steeply down to the creek, then parallels the creek. At about 3.75 miles a wooden bridge crosses the river. We stopped for lunch there then headed back. You could do a through hike by continuing up to Fourth of July Pass and then down to the Thunder CreekTrailhead. Be prepared for switchbacks! We counted a set of five then eleven on the first section going up, then from the high point, 27 more going to down to the creek level. We really enjoyed the hike!
