East Lancs Railway Small Engines Gala 2023 - Steam

East Lancashire Railway Small Engines Gala - Steam Saturday 10th June 2023 A celebration of the smaller members of the ELR fleet, the Small Engines returns after a 6 year break. The event featured a special guest in the form of Paul "Piglet" Middleton's Cockerill Steam Tram “Lucie” (Société Cockerill, Seraing, Liège, Belgium 0-4-0VBT Works Number 1625 of 1890). The steam tram joined Sentinel Works No. 7232, “Ann”, Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway 0-4-0ST Pug 19 / 11243, 0-6-0ST L&Y 752 / 51456, Hudswell Clarke 0-6-0T Hudswell Clarke 32 “Gothenburg” and LMS Hunslet built ‘Jinty’ 0-6-0T 47298. First we see the Pug, Lucie and Gothenburg at Little Burrs, before we see Lucie climbing the ski jump at Bury and making its way through Burrs. Joining Lucie next was Ann, seen passing Bury South and then over Brooksbottom Viaduct at Summerseat. The Pug leads the Tram over the ski jump out of Bury towards Heywood. Pug 19 and Sentinel Ann are seen at Castlecroft Yard (outside the Bury Transport Museum) shunting wagons. Finally we see 51456, Gothenburg and 47298 on the main passenger sets.
