Scientific testing in Arctic polar conditions - Episode 5 - Drift Test Tara Polar Station

Tests in polar conditions : After two months of wintering in Finland, Tara Polar Station has completed its testing campaign. In this fifth and final episode on Tara Polar Station's trials (available on our YouTube channel), follow oceanographer Eric Brossier behind the scenes of the ship's scientific laboratories. In the extreme winter conditions of the Gulf of Bothnia, trapped in more than 20 cm of ice and with temperatures reaching -20°C, more than 25 scientists from 12 international partner laboratories took turns to evaluate and deploy their instruments and adjust their protocols. Designed to carry out scientific expeditions in the Central Arctic Ocean, Tara Polar Station will set sail on its first expedition, Tara Polaris I, this summer. Until then, it will return to Cherbourg at Constructions Mécaniques de Normandie and then to Lorient, its home port, for final optimisations and to finish preparing the ship for its great drift.
