Salam alaikum! 🙏🏻 In today’s reflection we return to the story of Dhul al-Qarnayn, beginning with verses 83–84 of Surah al-Kahf. These opening verses invite a question that has echoed across centuries: who was Dhul al-Qarnayn? Drawing on classical scholarship and the insights of Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, we explore the major theories surrounding this figure, while also pausing to consider a deeper wisdom. The Quran gives us a title, not a biography; a moral portrait, not a fixed historical identity. This ambiguity may itself be intentional, guiding us away from fixation on names and towards reflection on character. Rather than anchoring leadership in lineage or legend, these verses direct our attention to conduct: how power is granted, understood, and exercised in the service of good. Dhul al-Qarnayn is presented as one enabled by God, moving with purpose, and conscious that authority is a trust rather than a possession. By beginning the story in this way, the Quran reframes leadership itself, not as something to be claimed through identity, but something proven through responsibility, justice, and restraint. As we continue our journey through Surah al-Kahf, this reflection invites us to ask not who we wish to resemble, but how we choose to act when entrusted with influence. May Allah ﷻ grant us insight to look beyond titles and appearances, and hearts attentive to the qualities that truly define righteous leadership. Amin. 🤲🏻 📅 Recorded Live: Streamed on 23rd January 2026 🔔 Connect & Grow: Don’t forget to Like, Share, and Subscribe for more reflections. 💬 Join the Conversation: Why do you think the Quran leaves the identity of Dhul al-Qarnayn open, and what does that invite us to focus on instead? ☕ Appreciate my work?
