And here it is, the finale of the Light Boss Rush! 0:00 Badge build and items 0:57 Phase 1 10:50 Phase 2 28:35 Phase 3 The Queen of Light is a 3-phase fight, and which phase you're in is based on how much HP the Queen of Light has lost, in terms of percentage. Phase 1 is in effect until the Queen has lost one-third of her HP. This is easy to remember since her base HP is 300, which becomes 600 with Ultra Curse. You know you're in the next phase when she summons Light Guardians. She'll summon 1 when you've entered Phase 2, and will summon 2 when you've entered Phase 3. However, there is a key thing to note; while the Queen does attempt to summon 2 Light Guardians upon getting to Phase 3, she cannot have more than 2 out at once. This means if the Light Guardian from Phase 2 is still alive upon entering Phase 3, she'll only summon 1 more Light Guardian. The Light Guardians do not actively attack; rather, they counterattack when you attack them or the Queen itself. Their form switching is similar to Robotoad in that it's predictable. Try to avoid taking damage from their Red Form if you can help it; it attacks 3 times compared to 1 on the other two forms. The Blue Form has higher Defense, and the Yellow Form gets +1 Attack and Defense after every round. I'm once again using the FP Repository badge build since I need to be able to use my Star Powers at any time during the fight when I need to. Using Pity Flower and Stellar Flowers therefore is essential to the success of this fight. Double Dip and Quick Change are also non-negotiable. I need to be able to use 2 items at once when I need to, and I also need to be able to switch partners consistently without losing any turns. Thunder Throw and Dark Smash are the attacking moves of choice. Thunder Throw deals more damage initially, and more importantly it lets us attack with our Hammer during Phase 2. Thunder Throw is far more effective in this build than using Jumps. Stellar Shield and Dark Shield may seem weird to have in the same build. However, because I'm using Stellar Flowers, these badges are exclusively for dealing with incoming damage. Without Stellar Shield, Dark Shield will always increase the damage I take by 50% since I would never be losing Star Power. And without Dark Shield, I don't have damage reduction with low Star Power. Dark Shield is always in effect long before I even get to Phase 2 anyways. From there, I focused the rest of the build on Defense to get just a little bit of extra damage reduction overall. And of course we can't forget about Feeling Fine since both the Queen and the Light Guardians are capable of inflicting status and hitting our partner. By the way, if you're curious about using invisibility, it's only good on one of the turns on the Queen's 3-attack cycle. That would be the turn in which the Queen uses Rainbow Bolts. Her other attacks pierce through invisibility. With all that out of the way, here's how the fight plays out in each phase: Phase 1 is free using this build as long as you play methodically. Keep your HP up and make sure you have enough FP to use both Smooch and Cloud Nine in the same turn when you have to (15 FP is that number). Don't use any items here until you're ready to enter Phase 2, there's no reason to do so. Funnily enough, if you use this build, this phase is free even at the Mega Curse level (3x). Phase 2 needs to be played carefully. The Light Guardian that's summoned here is always in front of the Queen, never behind. The Queen can now drop Mario's Defense by 2 with White Blast, the attack that comes after Rainbow Blast. You have to deal damage to both the Queen and the Light Guardian in this phase. This is essentially a battle of attrition and carefully managing your HP, FP, and Items. Attack when your HP is high (especially if you have active Cake regen), and heal when your HP is low. Goombario is a good partner to use here since he can bypass the Light Guardian and hit the Queen directly for 9 damage using Megabonk. Keep in mind, make sure you do NOT take out the Light Guardian in this phase. Bring it within one-hit range, but don't KO it. Phase 3 opens with the Queen summoning a 2nd Light Guardian, then immediately putting Mario in peril. Her White Blast from Phase 2 is now Yellow Blast, which drops Mario's Attack AND Defense by 2. But with that said, Phase 3 has the dubious honor of being easier than Phase 2. Start by taking out the Light Guardian in front so you're not getting hit by 2 counterattacks every time you deal damage. Also, hit the 2nd Guardian once so that its counterattack deals less damage. Once that's done, Mario can now use Dark Smash to deal a lot more damage to the Queen. This phase is easier because you know you have to focus on attacking. Essentially, this phase is a case of kill the Queen before the Queen kills you. You can ignore attacking the 2nd Light Guardian, just make sure you can always survive the Queen's attacks and the Guardian's counterattacks.
