Spring has arrived and the tropical garden is finally coming back to life, with new plants emerging, seeds being sown, and exciting garden changes beginning at last. Join me as hardy exotics reappear, homegrown plants take shape, and the garden transforms for the season ahead. As temperatures rise and sunlight returns, hardy exotic and herbaceous perennials are pushing through the soil — including the beautiful Begonia pedatifida and the orchid-like Bletilla striata, both bringing structure and interest to a temperate tropical garden in spring. Growing plants from seed is one of the most rewarding parts of gardening, helping improve wellbeing while also saving money. In this video I’m sowing and nurturing Chilli plants and Delphiniums, showing how raising your own plants can transform your garden affordably while giving a huge mental boost after winter. With the new season underway, major garden changes have begun. Long-standing banana plants have been removed to make way for a mystery feature tree, chosen to introduce seasonal interest with colour and structure in early spring and autumn.
