Berlin Walking Tour

While a big city, Berlin is very walkable (with a little help from its extensive and cheap public transport). We started with a walk through the Tiergarten on Strasse des 17 Juni. Going up the Siegessaule afforded a great view of our next destination, the Brandenburg Gate. After a quick stop at the Soviet War Memorial, we took in the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag. More walking brought us past Humboldt University and the Berliner Dom. We made a side trip to see Karl Marx before having lunch near Alexanderplatz. The U quickly took us to our final stopping point, the closed Tempelhof Airport, park. I included some old photos of East Berlin from my first visit, circa 1987.
