An Introduction to School Ground Sounds | School Ground Sounds | TEDxBrixton

An introduction to a South London organisation working hard to inspire change through music. School Ground Sounds works with secondary schools in London to provide additional music opportunities and mentoring. Using high-quality studios, we record and develop young musicians, offering a powerful online platform to showcase their work and kick-start their musical journeys. Recent research shows that music education is suffering. This is partly down to shortage in funding and resources but we believe there is also a disconnect between students’ experience of formal music education and the way they engage with music in their every day lives. Music-making has been linked to benefits in many areas of school life, from academic achievement to improved personal and social development, yet far too many young people from disadvantaged backgrounds are unable to fulfil their musical talent, unnecessarily restricting their life chances.
