Modernised the board: [1] replaced all the electrolytics and most of the ceramic disc capacitors, [2] replaced the 7805 linear regulator with a modern version, [3] gutted the RF modulator can so it now outputs straight composite video, and [4] gave the board a good wash ;) This particular model has Sega's 315-5066 video output chip and not TI's TMS9918 ... this means that RGBS output is relatively straightforward. The conversion to (NTSC) composite was actually quite easy - the output is available on the TP1 pin ... thanks to this tweet: https://twitter.com/a3rgan/status/123... No need for a buffer stage. Power input is 9VDC, 2.1mm plug, centre negative. Next ... getting audio output to work (let me guess ... another TP?) as well as RGBS. After that, I'm curious whether it's possible to upgrade the RAM available to BASIC ... in the Sega SC-3000 there is no BASIC and little RAM built in - BASIC comes on a cartridge along with the RAM. BASIC Level IIIB comes with 32KB but the "HOME BASIC" that comes with the SK-1100 keyboard, although newer, only has 16KB of RAM. So, possible to just replace the RAM chips in the cartridge ... ? Replacement voltage regulators - you can get them without the header pins so you have flexibility in how you install them: www.ezsbc.com {I'm not affiliated in any way, just a very happy customer of a small US business}
