I remember having this game on CD-ROM back in 1998 I think after buying it at a discount from a bargain bin (hehe), but I never got to play it as more and more modern computers kept coming out and then eventually it became incompatible. The game initially came out in 1997 (this Gold Edition) with the original before it appearing in 1996, I'm pretty sure. Although I never played the original, I do remember that this Gold version was advertised as being better, having more tracks, cars and better graphics. I remember seeing the ads and screenshots from PCGAMER magazine from 1996 and 1997 of those years about this game. Ehh.. those years were very nice I think with lots of good games and memories.. but back to the game at hand here hehe What else to say?.. So after managing to get it to play and obtaining a recording of it (neither of which was an easy task because the game is so old and hard to deal with on new hardware, i.e. today's new computers), the game is quite good but not great. It moves pretty fast and the tracks are quite muddy and you can't see very well ahead of you or where you're going, which can result in some pretty nasty crashes which in turn causes you to lose the race and then having to start it all over again ughh, which is not really fun. So as a result I turned to playing it on 'easy' difficulty which was more manageable. Although I did start and tried my best on the medium difficulty, I wasn't getting too far anywhere with it because the cars were just too fast and I could never catch up to them lol and also maneuvering the tracks at high speeds was quite difficult, as I previously mentioned. If you are more of a fanatic about this game and if the tracks are practiced many times, the game could perhaps be played on the 'medium' difficulty, but it was not worth the time and effort for me. The game features plenty of tracks but most are pretty dab and dull and just not that great in my opinion. It's like they tried to make the tracks good but they all just kinda (suck, haha just kidding) came out average and similar. In regards to the cars, after having tried a few of them, the Scorpion car turned out to be the best one and which with the game was most playable with. The other cars are most likely to make you lose the race lol and start all over again with the most common problem of them being too slow, or sometimes too fast but too unstable when dealing with turns. Score-wise I can't decide between a 7 or 8/10 for this game, but most fairly it would be somewhere in between. At face value this game is worth a 7 but there are some fun aspects of it which would make me give it an 8, so umm... I don't know, it's probably a 7 if it annoys you and an 8 if you're more patient, but it's really a mixture of both lol. Ehh okay, an 8, since I'm leaning towards the better side of this game (but not much lol). Well so enjoy my video-play of this game and for me it did bring back some nostalgic memories from that time period, but if you were not from back then (late 90's), then this game would probably not mean much or appeal to you that much but it would still make for a fun watch or play, if you are so inclined to give it a chance, some of your time and (necessary) patience hehe #pod #Gold #race
