Utah [Arizona] 2009 - Day 8 Lower Antelope Canyon

The eighth day of trip held an unexpected surprise, Lower Antelope Canyon. We stopped on our way west back to Las Vegas. In 2009 it was still relatively unknown and was not well marked. It was below freezing and cloudy and there were only a few people. We ended up on a tour with only the two of us, and the entire time only saw one other small tour group of three Japanese. There were no restrictions on photography or videography. And because no one was there we were able to enter the canyon on the south, normally the exit, and walk up to the entrance inside the canyon, then turn around and walk back in the other direction. If it had been busy then this would not have been possible, as there is not enough room for people to pass each other within the canyon. Being inside the canyon also sheltered us from the wind, so it did not feel as cold. Some spots were tight and I was barely able to squeeze through. Before visiting I had also mistakenly assumed that I should visit the canyon when it was sunny (I had seen those famous pictures of Upper Antelope Canyon sun beams), but in retrospect I think cloudy days help with photography and videography as it creates 'softer' images.
