The seven day event - June 3rd to 8th - unveils the key looks for Spring /summer 2008 - Brazil style. The Maria Bonita Extra label, from designer Andrea Marques, used an unusual stage and decided on prints inspired by urban graffiti art. The designs were dominated by black and white, in an attempt to replicate the original graffiti , with vivid shades of blue, browns, pinks and yellows used as accents. Shorts and loose skirts with prints inspired by street art were key.. Tuesday night ended with top models on the catwalk at the Colcci show, including 21-year-old Juliana Imai, from Cruzeiro do Oeste, in Parana State, Southern Brazil. The model, who has mixed Japanese and Portuguese heritage, has worked with Dolce& Gabbana, Dior, Gucci and Vogue Paris. Imai said that she loves the Colcci label and she was very excited to be sharing the stage with Gisele Bundchen. "I have been using Colcci wear for a long time, since they started as a label, " she said. " I find them gorgeous and I'm also very excited to be on stage with Gisele (Bundchen)." The Colcci designer, Jessica Lengyel, explained to AP why being at Rio Fashion is so important for the label. "Rio is the business card of Brazil. It is interesting to be at Fashion Rio because of the worldwide projection," she said. An excited 2000 strong crowd watched Bundchen open the show, appearing in an elevator at the top of a graffiti lined runway. The supermodel's outings for the local brand included an orange silk jump suit; a sequined gold mini dress and natty striped jeans paired with metallic bra. All of her appearances on the catwalk were greeted with rapturous applause. The Colcci show also featured a variety of prints on mini dresses, and high waisted trousers. Colours varied from light green tones to intense strong orange reds. Silks dominated the fabrics along with flax, satin mixed with traditional cottons.
