You used to handle a lot. Multitask. Keep things running. Hold everything together. And lately, something has shifted. In this solocast, I share a discovery that helped me make sense of why pushing harder started giving me less: less patience, less focus, less energy, and why this shows up so clearly in midlife. It’s about ultradian rhythms: a natural biological cycle that governs how our nervous system moves between focus and recovery throughout the day. I’m not sharing this as an expert or a lesson. I’m sharing it as someone walking this perimenopause transition herself, noticing the cost of overriding my nervous system, and learning what changes when I work with it instead. In this conversation, I explore: why the “push through” strategy eventually backfires how continuous output keeps the nervous system stuck in activation why midlife changes our recovery capacity what respecting ultradian rhythms actually looks like in real life how this reframes fatigue, irritability, and scattered focus. This isn’t about doing less. It’s about learning how to go farther, without driving yourself into the ground. I’m learning how to work with my body in a way that sustains me, and I’m inviting you into that shift.
