SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Hugo Chavez, President of Venezuela: "I invite the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and their companies, technology and their advances to be united with Venezuela. I always say to the United States entrepreneurs, 'let's not allow the political conflict altering the good commercial relationship with the United States.' We have accomplished that (commercial relationship). Some people are surprised about it, but this relationship is the product of patience." 6. Cutaway of audience 7. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Hugo Chavez, President of Venezuela: "First of all, we are not in any arms race, yes of course, we need some arms, the minimum and necessary to defend our territory. But we have never used oil as a political or geopolitical arm against any country. The people of the Unites States are not responsible for the actions and aggressions of their government against our government." 8. Cutaway of reporters 9. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Hugo Chavez, President of Venezuela: "Venezuela is advancing, the Bolivian project is advancing, and it is successful in the political, economic and social sectors. It is an absolutely democratic project with positive relations with the whole world except with the government of the United States, but that is a special case that does not follow rational structures of relationships among humans. There is an irrational government in Washington that threatens the whole world. I always say to Europe that it can do a lot to stop the imperial craziness. We need to walk forward towards a world of alternatives." 10. Cutaway of audience 11. Chavez greeting audience 12. Wide of pro-Chavez demo outside Banqueting House 13. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) Hugo Chavez, President of Venezuela: "It is imperialism of the kind that hurts so many countries around the world. But we won't let it (US sanctions) get to us. It doesn't matter to us in the slightest." 17. Chavez enters Banqueting House STORYLINE: Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Monday brushed aside the US suspension of arms sales to his country, saying it didn't matter. The Venezuelan leader, on a visit to London, ruled out shutting down his country's oil production in response to the US arms embargo. "We have never used oil as a political or geopolitical arm against any country. The people of the Unites States are not responsible for the actions and aggressions of their government against our government", Chavez said during an address to about 600 business leaders, academics and diplomats at London's Banqueting House. The Venezuelan leader added that while there were no plans to do so if his government shut off oil supplies to the United States, the price for a barrel of oil could reach 90 US dollars. Chavez also said his government would not respond with punitive measures such as travel restrictions. He said his country had put up with American pressure over the past seven years, and was more than capable of withstanding more. "There is an irrational government in Washington that threatens the whole world. I always say to Europe that it can do a lot to stop the imperial craziness. We need to walk forward towards a world of alternatives", said Chavez. Venezuela was not in an arms race, but needed some weapons to defend itself, the 51-year-old leader also said.
