We finally touched down in Tokyo! Our very first mission? Catching a glimpse of the legendary Mount Fuji. This trip is extra special because we’re celebrating the birthday of my good friend Ricky and former colleague. Huge shoutout to / letsgojapanplus for getting this whole itinerary booked and ready for us. Now, the weather forecast in Yamanashi Prefecture wasn't exactly on our side. They warned us that Fuji might be hiding behind the clouds, but we had to try. Our first stop was the Chureito Pagoda. You’ve definitely seen this place on Instagram or travel posters, it’s that "perfect" shot where the red pagoda frames the mountain peak. It’s easily one of the most iconic spots in all of Japan. Even with the stubborn clouds, standing there on the viewing deck was incredible. There’s a certain energy to the place that you just can’t capture in a photo. We took a moment to just savor the view and breathe in the mountain air, clouds or no clouds. Since Fuji was being a bit shy, we decided to pivot. We headed down to the Kitaguchihongu Fuji Sengen Shrine to grab a Kenyan coffee and warm up before the trek back to Tokyo. This place is heavy with history, it’s been the heart of Mount Fuji worship for centuries and was traditionally the starting point for climbers taking the Yoshida Trail. Walking through the grounds, you’re surrounded by massive ancient cedar trees and mossy stone lanterns. Passing through the torii gate, you really feel the spiritual weight of the mountain. It’s quiet, beautiful, and the perfect place to reset. For now, we’re heading back to Tokyo to get some solid rest. We aren't giving up that easily, though! We’re planning a second attempt at the Chureito Pagoda tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed the weather gods are in a better mood!
