The implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission in Tia Temisgam village of Leh district has fallen far short of expectations, leading to widespread dissatisfaction among the residents. Villagers report that the quality of work carried out under the project has been poor from the beginning. According to them, sub-standard pipes and fittings were used during installation. As a result, frequent breakages and leakages have become a common problem. These leakages have caused significant damage to surrounding homes, fields, and pathways, especially because the village lacks a proper drainage system to channel the excess water safely. The overflowing water often seeps into properties, leading to soil erosion, structural weakening, and inconvenience for households. Adding to the frustration is the fact that several sections of the village have not received a single drop of water through the installed pipelines, even though the infrastructure was laid years ago. Villagers feel that the project has failed to achieve its main aim of providing reliable drinking water. Despite repeatedly voicing their concerns, many residents believe that the issue has not been adequately addressed by the authorities or the implementing agencies. Overall, the community is demanding accountability, proper inspection of the existing system, replacement of low-quality materials, and timely action to ensure that the Jal Jeevan Mission delivers the promised benefits to every household in Tia Temisgam.
