First Production 1961 Norton Manxman 650 restoration (19) - Exhaust system (Part 1) 3D Printing

I hope you will enjoy this mini-series from The Mighty Garage featuring a complete restoration of this very interesting motorcycle, the infamous *Norton Manxman*. This bike in particular is extra special in that it is the first production 650cc made by Norton. I’m really grateful to my friend Sam, who lent me exhaust header pipes and mufflers/silencers from one of his Norton Manxman motorcycles. As you may know, the exhaust system is extremely rare for the Norton Manxman. My understanding is that they only made these for one year only. They were fabricated by hand at the Norton Motorcycles Bracebridge Street works and are almost impossible to obtain these days. There is a brave gentleman called Anthony Curzon in the UK who is endeavoring to replicate an exhaust system in Britain. I thought I would try by doing the same here across the pond in the USA. Using the original exhaust pipe and muffler’s, Dave and I thought we would try and get a 3-D model created that can be used hopefully to supply an STL (stereolithography) file to a company who may be able to replicate the pipes and silencers from the file. As you will see in the video, we visited a local company here in Portland called dependable Pattern Works. It was a pleasure and excellent experience meeting Carl and Steve. They were most helpful and interested in the project. The result is that I now have an STL file as well as model files that we can take to the next step. From here, we can hopefully use the files to create a physical facsimile of the exhaust pipes and mufflers or the files can be used by a company who can produce the finished product.
