Opening your upper back is the first step in getting your shoulders pain free. To be honest.... I do have a love/hate relationship with the Apley Scratch Test though: One one hand, I'm a big fan of tests to check your flexibility level, so you know where you are, how to improve and to track progress. But on the other hand... people can become super obsessed with tests, and unless you're majorly imbalanced, trying to improve this test doesn’t really have any major positive repercussions… So take this test as a bit of fun so you can see where you are at with it and you should do the exercises because they are just GOOD exercises you should be doing anyways to keep your shoulders happy and healthy!
