Matatu operators protest in Nairobi CBD, block roads at Ronald Ngala–Tom Mboya junction

A section of matatu operators has today staged protests in Nairobi’s Central Business District, parking their vehicles across major roads to block traffic. The disruption is occurring at the intersection of Ronald Ngala Street and Tom Mboya Street, causing significant traffic disruption in the area. Heavy pedestrian movement has been reported as most Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators are dropping passengers before reaching the CBD, forcing commuters to walk the remaining distance. The protest comes in the wake of what operators describe as rising insecurity on Kenyan roads, including the torching of public service vehicles involved in road accidents by boda boda riders and the public.
