(Updated description) This was meant to replace the Kidde KN-COSM-IBA. I am most likely the first person to review this unit, and I highly regret it… These things suck so bad. I’ve been getting reports of them falsing already and not having working hush buttons. Also the fact they redesigned the wire harness just explains that they’re slowly becoming apple, being greedy for extra money forcing people to buy new adapters for the new designed harness, which by the way sucks. They couldn’t keep the mounting brackets consistent either between the battery and hardwired models and also slightly different from the original KN-COSM-IB and the KN-COSM-IBA brackets, heck even the KN-COPE-IC had the same bracket and harness. But they just HAD to redesign them. Also the sensor is exposed without a bug grille which is a reason why they false and the battery door is incredibly awkward. And worst of all, the new logo… such a downgrade from such superior units. I made some slight edits to this part of the description as well… KEY FEATURES: From Kidde's Website (FML) 2X the Detection - Alerts you to both smoke & CO using a single alarm. (Hopefully the detection actually works after the Trusense incident) Self-Testing - Smoke & CO alarm is equipped with components that are always checking to ensure the device is operating as expected.* (Hopefully it is) Whole-home Alarm Activation - Expand detection via hardwired connections to other Kidde alarms – when one alarm sounds, they all do.** (Unless the interconnect fails somehow…) Quick-Install Mounting Bracket - Included in the box for simple, easy installation in 4 orientations. (There was NO need to slightly redesign the bracket) AC-hardwired with battery backup - Powered by home’s electricity in order to provide reliable detection. 2-AA batteries provide smoke detector-carbon monoxide detector combo backup power during short-term power outages. (But why make the batter door NOT front load and weirder than ever…) Photoelectric smoke sensor - May detect visible fire particles associated with slow smoldering fires sooner than an ionization sensor. (Or just random dust particles… again no bug grille, and also if the new look is coming from the IBA, why change the sensor type? This seems to be a COPE-IC replacement, oh wait…) Electrochemical CO sensor - Provides accurate and continual CO protection during the product’s life, remains stable during temperature and humidity changes and resists reactions to household gases that may cause false readings or reduce sensitivity. (I hope it works though) One-Touch Button - Unique cat-eye button on the face of the detector performs the following functions: (Also it’s not unique, it’s ugly…) Activates the Hush feature to temporarily silence nuisance alarms. (Or so you think) Tests the unit’s electronics and verifies proper operation. (Standard Kidde testing sequence) Resets the carbon monoxide smoke detector combo during a CO alarm (Unit will re-enter alarm within 6 minutes of reset if 70ppm or more of CO is present). Silences a low battery chirp for up to 24 hours. Silences the end of life chirp on this carbon monoxide detector and smoke alarm for up to 24 hours. (Can’t wait for early end of life units) *Self-testing is not a substitute for a manual push test of the alarm. Perform a button test once per week to verify proper alarm operation **Alarms only connect with select Kidde alarms that have hardwired AC interconnect capability (see User Guide) Power Source Hardwired (F*ck that harness) Sensor Electrochemical & Photoelectric (Exposed by the way without a bug grille) Retail Price* $49.99 (WHY SO EXPENSIVE)
